How far is Magna from the center of the coverage?
Magna's ZIP center is about 15.7 km west of the anchor, which is the average of the Salt Lake City ZIP centroids. It is one of the farther points in the coverage, so the crew is often sent from a nearby area rather than from the middle of the city.
The distance is part of the plan, not a promise. The dispatcher takes the free crew's position into account, and the window given on the phone is revised if that position changes before the crew arrives.
Which water paths does a crew check in Magna?
Indoors, the paths are the supply lines, drains, water heater connections and appliance hoses. The crew stops the source it finds and then follows the water to the lowest point of the room, where the readings begin.
Outdoors, the paths are window wells, basement doors, storm drain outlets and the ground along the foundation. Water that enters from outside is followed along its path, and each opening is marked on the walk around the building.
What is confirmed before the room is entered?
The power to the room is confirmed off, and any appliance standing in water is confirmed disconnected. Cords in the water are treated as live until they are shown to be dead, and each check is explained.
Stored items are sorted next. Items above the water stay in place, and items in the water go to a dry area. The crew writes down the position of each item before and after it is moved.
How is drying finished for a Magna room?
Air movers and a dehumidifier are placed once the standing water is out. The crew reads the walls, floor and framing at each visit and writes them into the log. Equipment moves as the readings change, and the room is closed when every reading meets the target.
Materials that cannot reach the target in place are removed. Each one is shown to you before it is taken out, and the list goes with the moisture log for any repair.
